About this policy
This Cookie Policy explains how the Olbey marketing website (the pages you’re reading now) uses cookies and similar browser storage. Olbey is a personal finance app; the app itself is native iOS and does not use website cookies. This policy covers the website only.
We keep this simple on purpose. We use as few cookies as we reasonably can, we don’t use them to track you across other sites, and we don’t sell your data. For how we handle information more broadly, see our Privacy Policy.
Effective date: May 29, 2026
What cookies and local storage are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to save on your device. The next time you visit, the site can read that file to remember small things — like a setting you chose. Cookies can’t run programs or read other files on your device.
Local storage (and the related session storage) is a similar idea built into modern browsers. It lets a site save small pieces of information — like whether you prefer light or dark mode — directly in your browser, without sending it back and forth on every request. Throughout this policy, when we say "cookies" we mean cookies and these similar storage methods together.
Our approach: minimal by design
We don’t load a pile of trackers. The Olbey website uses a short, deliberate list of cookies and storage keys — each one earns its place. Here’s the short version:
- No advertising cookies. We don’t run ads on this site and we don’t set ad cookies.
- No third-party tracking cookies. We don’t use cookies that follow you from site to site to build a profile.
- No selling your data. Ever.
- Privacy-friendly analytics only. If we measure traffic, we use analytics designed to respect privacy and avoid building personal profiles.
Categories of cookies we use
We group what we use into three plain categories:
- Strictly necessary. These keep the website working — things like basic security and remembering the cookie choice you made so we don’t keep asking. These are always on, because the site can’t function properly without them.
- Preferences. These remember small choices that make the site nicer to use, like whether you picked light or dark mode. They’re optional and only about your experience on this site.
- Analytics. These help us understand, in aggregate, how many people visit and which pages are useful, so we can improve the site. We use privacy-friendly analytics and only set these if you allow them.
The cookies and storage keys we use
Here is the specific list. Names may evolve as the site grows, but the categories and intent stay the same.
- olbey-cookie-consent — Type: local storage (strictly necessary). Purpose: remembers whether you accepted or declined non-essential cookies, so we don’t show the consent notice on every visit. Typically kept for up to 12 months.
- olbey-theme — Type: local storage (preferences). Purpose: remembers whether you chose light or dark mode. Stays until you change it or clear your browser storage.
- olbey-waitlist — Type: local storage (functional). Purpose: temporarily remembers the email you entered for the waitlist on this device so the form can confirm you’re signed up. Stays until you clear your browser storage.
- Privacy-friendly analytics — Not currently in use. If we add privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics in the future, we’ll enable it only with your consent and update this list first.
What we do not use
To be clear about what’s not on this site:
- No advertising or marketing cookies.
- No cross-site or third-party tracking cookies that follow you around the web.
- No cookies that read your bank or financial information. Your bank connection lives only inside the Olbey iOS app, is read-only through Plaid, and is never handled by this website. See the Privacy Policy for details.
- No selling, renting, or trading of any data this site collects.
How to control cookies
You’re in charge. You have two easy ways to manage cookies on this site:
- Our consent banner. The first time you visit, we ask whether you’ll allow non-essential cookies (preferences and analytics). You can accept or decline. If you’d like to change your mind later, you can reopen your choices from the cookie or privacy link in the website footer.
- Your browser settings. Every major browser lets you view, block, or delete cookies and local storage. Look in your browser’s privacy or settings menu — Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge all offer this. You can also use private/incognito browsing, which clears most storage when you close the window.
If you clear your browser storage, settings like your saved theme and your recorded cookie choice will reset, and we may ask for your preferences again on your next visit.
Declining non-essential cookies
Declining is completely fine. The website still works if you say no to non-essential cookies. You can read every page, learn about Olbey, and join the waitlist for early access without allowing preferences or analytics cookies.
The only difference is small: we won’t remember optional choices like your theme between visits, and we won’t include your visit in our aggregate analytics. The strictly necessary items stay on so the site keeps functioning and so we can remember that you declined.
Changes to this policy
As the Olbey website grows, we may update this policy — for example, if we add or remove a tool. When we make a meaningful change, we’ll update the effective date at the top, and where appropriate we’ll ask for your cookie choices again through the consent banner. We’ll always aim to keep it short, honest, and easy to understand.
A note on these documents
Olbey is an early-stage product in active development. These policies describe our current, genuine practices and are written to be clear rather than scary. As the product grows we’ll keep them up to date — and if anything here is ever unclear, email us at [email protected] and a human will explain it.
